This is the point in my life where I finally accept that I'm a pretty bad person.

Out of Commission

So I've been sitting around for a week and 3 days at this point and I can tell you that I have spent way too much time tooling around on youtube when I should have been reading. Video is just so much easier to process than literature. But I have almost gotten through a third of the learning spanish set I got. Which is pretty cool. Maybe by the season I will have gotten through all the lessons and can just keep reviewing and trying to speak with people. If I were working right now, I'd just go into the housekeeping lineup every morning and take notes and see what I could understand. But since I'm just sitting at home veg-ing out on the couch, I have nobody with whom I can speak.

The only thing I have to keep me company is the drumming of the dude upstairs that is trying to become a drummer. One of the maintenance guys is over re-painting my shower wall (cause the paint was coming off and there was some mold growing in there (looks like they just painted over the mold when I moved in, honestly)). So he's taking care of that and he tells me he knows the guy and he would personally go break his sticks if I called him and told him the guy's too loud. He said he's a drummer too. But a drummer of a higher caliber, I presume.




My snowboard bindings came in for the season. They actually look way more durable and less flexible that I originally thought. Which will be good if I want to get real radical and do some big stuff (as I have soft boots again this year). I'm planning on buying this capita in the 153 size. I'm seeing if my buddy Scott'll hook it up, but if not, I'm just going to pay full price on it. I got one set of black bindings and one set of purple so I'm going to put one of each color on both of my boards. My ride from last year has purple on the board too, so it'll look sick on both. I just set up my bindings to fit my new boots and I have some bad news. The purple plaid on my boots is a little bit lighter of a purple than on my bindings. I'm certain that will make my riding suffer quite a bit since there isn't an exact match ;)
I also got my gopro cameras in. If you want to buy one of the 1080p ones n.i.b. just holla at me cause I have an extra. I could get rid of it for 200 for the homie discount. I'm excited to have that to ride with this year. Maybe I can get some footage that isn't going to stay in a camera up in Minnesota (ryan shultz!!!!!) never to be seen again! I really really want to see that urban footage we filmed that one snowy night on DU's campus. The tricks weren't that great, but the potential for some really great looking background shots was way up there. Oh well.

His instrumental album The Traveling Man is a really great record to throw on if you're writing, art-ing, or just chilling. A few of the tracks are really great as stand-alone joints. If you don't want to get the whole thing, Miami, Lagos, Philly, San Fran, Stockholm, Detroit, & Chicago are my favorites. He must not have liked Paris, cause that track is the weakest of the 23 i.m.o.


I've been listening to the most recent installment of Audible Coffee the past 3 days and there are some Jams. Better yet, subscribe to his music-letter (kylevanblock@audiblecoffee.com) which goes out every Sunday and contains a little bit of everything in the electronic music mega-genre. There hasn't been a week where at least 3 or 4 tracks he puts up that are gems. So go check that out. My favorites are Reborn, Swedish Nights, Right Beside You, & Reach for Me. It's getting colder out here. Apparently it's snowing or will snow at least a half-foot above 9500 feet in the next day. It's coming!! I'm so siked for the season to come. I mean I'm not going to be able to do anything till november (recovery time + travel) but I'm mentally ready. I was having trouble going to sleep the other night cause I was imagining standing on top of the 3 line at Keystone getting some clips. Those jumps are so big. I heard they feel really good, but they just look Uge! I watched this video:

My sis is coming up on Saturday and I'm excited. I'll have some company and she'll probably clean my house cause she's ocd like that. Haha. It's crazy how much dust will accumulate in less than 2 weeks (since I cleaned the place with my mom before the surgery).

I've been working what seems like alot recently. I guess if it were to be a normal 9-5 for 40 hours I'd feel it would pass faster maybe? Or at least not make me as tired? Dunno. But anyway, I love sleeping. Bad habit to get into, but I don't have anything else going on. Maybe I'll kick the bug when I have basically 3 weeks in bed recovering from the lack of bone spur I will have on my heel in a 12 days from now.

I've been watching alot of movies recently. Most of them are good i.m.o., but I'm not a really good judge as I am admittedly a fan of most movies I've seen. Even more than with music honestly. I can find something I like in just about every type of movie. With the exception of horror and grindhouse type shit. For example, John was watching "Hobo with a Shotgun" a while back and from what I saw, I was really really close to throwing up. That's not a movie; that's pornography. But anyway, I saw Black Swan. Great movie and thrilling. I was on the edge of my seat nearly the whole time. I thought some of the characters like the mom were really unbelievable, but I guess that's just cause Natalie Portman's character was insane. I watched No Country for Old Men last night. I was actually pretty bummed on it after reading the book. I guess that's to be expected... Sheriff Bell in the book was simple but smart and just a really great guy all-around. In the movie I felt he was made to be simple to the point of being stupid and alot less introspective and kind. Oh well. I'm sure I'd feel the same way about Watchmen if I had read the books. I think I'll watch O Brother Whereart Thou today. Havent seen that one the whole way through and I really like The Oddessy by Homer so I'll check that out. I also saw Inception for $10 at wallyworld before I got a haircut. So I picked that up. Have to watch that again. On another note, The Royal Tenenbaums is probably my favorite movie. I like everything about its quirkyness.

There's alot going on in my brain these days that I'm not willing to put up on this shit. Maybe I'll be able to tell somebody when I go see phillip in atl and joe in nyc. I leave myself feeling pretty retarded about stuff alot and I know what makes me feel like that and I need to stop. At least I can always get krunk with things like Drankenstein Vol 2. I love the Mike Jones jam in here. But the best is Luda's Satisfaction and Boozie's Ratchet. The latter has a beat that should be illegal. Way too krunk. Next time I go out I'm going to do the dance too.

Hello everybody. I just turned 23. It feels similar to 22, but with more health. And more soul...like the song you're listening to. Groovy. Scope their other stuff. Reminds me of a Kev Brown beat. Maybe it is. I didn't look it up.


So I feel like birthdays are really anti-climactic these days. They don't mean as much anymore. Not that they should either. The best part of mine was seeing the family come up for the weekend before. I got really tired as a result, but it was great to see them. People always say family is the most important. They're right.

Been a while since I wrote anything here. I guess that's just how it goes.
I watched Shaun White win the x games gold in skateboard vert. Dude is clutch. I guess since I'm kinda over skating, I don't really feel the need to watch the x games anymore. Oh well. I don't have to listen to their announcers bro-ing it up anymore...



I played kickball today with people from the Ritz up here and I came to a really harsh realization. No matter how well I perform at a public event like that, I am incredibly anxious. Looking back over the last 3 years of my life, I have become more and more socially awkward. I get nervous when people are looking at me to the point of shaking and feeling nausea. I don't know why this is starting to happen to me, but it's really painful. I feel like it will eventually only lead to two possible places: one, I will continue to seclude myself until I have reached full social recluse status, or two, I will slowly go insane. Both of which are terrifying and depressing. I hate being around people sometimes. All people. I just want to disappear completely. Some days it's much worse than others, but I always seem to have a growing fear of saying the wrong thing, doing the wrong thing, or generally just upsetting others...to the point that this is taking a tole on my psyche. I don't want to end up alone, but I feel more and more apt to as the weeks tick by. I've realized that I only like doing activities that I can do by myself (biking, snowboarding) I like being around people in those activites most of the time, but I also know that I can do my own thing, I'm in control of my own destiny when I'm doing them, and I'm not going to let anyone down but myself. To be honest, I'm afraid of this steamroller of mental incapability that is slowly affecting me more and more.

So there, I said it. If I come off as distant, that's why. And i'm sorry, but it's something that I really need to have time to figure out.


Also, I wish to god that this Argentinian girl I have a somewhat ridiculous level of desire to be around would hurry up and get the the US. That or I could fast forward to November 21st. It seems like that date is one of the few things I have set in stone.



My parents are coming up to visit with my sister next week. Unfortunately, I have to work the whole time they're here just because I didn't get to the request calendar at work in a timely manner and two other guys are on vacation during that time. It sucks. All I want to do is hang out with them up here. Family has definitely become much more important to me during the time I've slowly been going insane.

I really like this video despite how messed up it is.

I admittedly haven't really watched too much of the teva games this weekend, but what I have seen has been pretty cool. I've preferred sleeping and sitting around. But in my defense, I did make the trek down to Denver for my friend Jason's last art show. That always takes it out of me. But now I can say I have some original art in my house that isn't mine. This is a turning point in my life.

I have a few songs to post before I head down to the games to see if I can come up on some more swag. Then off to the Ritz for another boring afternoon of much more not-parking than parking.



First song I kinda stumbled upon last night while looking for some info on Adrian Lux. I have recently remembered how much I like all of the tracks I've heard from him and was interested to know more. By the way, you're listening to Teenage Crime by him if you hit play on the embedded video.

So this one is called Can't Sleep. It takes a little bit from the original, but marcus schossow has created a really intricate synth line that is insanely great. The only problem that I can find with the track is that it isn't blended really all that well. Its like having a super good idea and not being able to make it 100% relate-able. Whatever, it's still awesome. Enjoy.

Recently i've been Really into the mellower side of DnB. I simply can't get enough. You would think that a genre that's built around having essentially the exact same drum line playing in every song would result in a monotonous mess. Wrong. Other than the music, nothing's really going on. I've applied at 5 places and haven't heard anything back from any of them yet. So finger's crossed on the job hunt front. I've actually been pretty lonely up here in Vail since most of the people I hung out with during the year have either disappeared on vacation or have moved away for the off season and summer. But...I think ill have some bike riding buddies here in a few weeks when it FINALLY stops raining and snowing. It's getting kind of ridiculous. Never-ending winter would be better if you didn't have to go to A-basin to enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, I love a bay bay, but the drive is pretty lame at a good 45 min each way.

Tonight, I will eat pizza. And it shall be awesome.

So my Hawaii trip was pretty awesome. I didn't start off on a great note seeing as I had to work till 11:15 the night before I had a 7am flight from Denver to Dallas. But after dealing with the travel and exhaustion, I was happy to arrive in the sunny humid climate of the mellowest place I think i've ever been to. We had some great sushi at the meet and greet the first night too.

The next day I went ziplining with a pretty good crew of alcatel people. There were 8 ziplines that were progressively longer and steeper that went back and forth over this canyon. Overall a good time.

The next day was the team-building day. Somehow, I got sick between the hours of 9am and 1pm and could not participate. Go figure. I proceeded to sit in the sun and then get a haircut.

Tuesday me and my dad went with the surfing group to try that out. I would say that even though snow>ocean, I was glad I tried it. I have an interest to try it again but with a shorter board. The 10ft+ learners board that they had us on was good for a first time go, but ended up being more work to paddle out and to turn around to catch waves. My legs were also rubbed raw by sliding up and down the board to turn it. My weak ass skin was not ready for that.

Wednesday, we rented a jeep and drove around the island to Hana. We did the route the opposite way that they recommended so we could cut out the traffic issues. Good choice. And we were able to stop at the 7 pools and hike up to see all of them plus this huge 300ft+ waterfall at the top of the trail. Truly epic. The hike led us through 3 different climates (one of which was a bamboo forest. really cool.). Definately the best thing we did in HI. And the radio station that we listened to most of the way was just steady rockin some island reggae jams. Made for a good relaxing drive.

Thursday we didn't do anything. Just sat around/in the sun until the flight at night. Which was a major pain. We got into dallas at 5am friday morning.


I was happy to be in the muggy and not sunny D-town for easter cause I got to spend time with the family as well as a few friends.



Coming back up to Vail after the Hawaii part especially has been really hard. The weather sucks and the mountain is closed so I can't use the fresh snow that keeps falling. I'm honestly ready for the summer season to roll in.

This last song I'll post is a Really deep trance track. Kinda describes the melancholy of the season. And it's dedicated to miss L.A. (who I still think about far too much for somebody I don't even know how to contact).

So I went to Kaskade at Beta yesterday night. I ended up dancing with this person for an hour and a quarter. I didn't get a name or a number and all I know is that she goes to school in LA somewhere and was friends with a girl who's a 2011 year at DU. Don't know her friend's name either.

All I can say is that I've never once felt so connected with and attracted to someone before. I dreamt of her, I thought about her all day, and I can't shake it. We'll see if time fixes this. My stomach is a pit.

This almost died. But then I went to an event that needed posting about...

Let me first say that Snowball was great. Everyone that I wanted to see and then got to see put it down. I was honestly not disappointed by anyone I was excited about seeing. Porter had some technical difficulties with his power cutting out, but everyone else was able to put up a dope set regardless of anything that might have come along.

I will say that my single favorite moment of the weekend was when Bassnectar dropped David Banner's Play into his set. It was only like 30 seconds, but i love that beat and was happy to hear a throwback. Go to 1:30
So Sick!
I was also dancing with a dope dancer when that came on. Which brings me to my "grinds my gears" section. How are you going to dance with somebody sexually for like two and a half hours and then after let them in on the fact that you have a boyfriend by having him come and pick you up. I mean.... what the fuck is up with girls talking massive game up here and then just acting like they were just being friendly about stuff? Cause you might have been on drugs or drunk but you still know what you're goddamn doing...

Oh and to the other person that I'm super interested in right now... how about you stop being so damn hard to get in touch with? We hung out, it was a good time, we wanted to hang out again, it's now been like 2 weeks and no fault of my own. I can only text and call so much.

Back to Snowball... Diplo was bananas. The dancehall/afrikaans type stuff that's popping up in his music more and more frequently is really really dope to dance to. Porter was great. Pretty Lights was mediocre at best simply because I didn't like the music. They put on a good show but the music wasn't my cup of tea. Savoy was incredible. I hadn't seen them but they were dope. Classixx threw down on some 80s inspired groove shit that was super fun. Bassnectar, like I already said, was fantastic. Baths and Afroman were the dopest part of Sunday. Flaming Lips...not my vibe. Eskimo was basically a poor man's Baths. He was basically trying the same stuff but not getting even close to as technical with it. Eodo was pretty good. Cool to see some old guys killing it.

The weekend was an overall triumph...with the exception of the ice to slip on, the puddles to soak in, and the mud to cover your clothes with. Concrete venue next year.

Now all I want to do it go to a great trance and/or prog house show. That was the only thing missing. And you all know how much I love my techno....

Where Do You Draw The Line?

This joint is incredible in it's original state. But this 128bpm version by my man Liam Keegan is even doper. (Also. the Teenage Dream mix is also super tight).

2. Gagayonce. The Telephone video was awesome. The song is decent. This remix adds intricacies and intrigue. It definately gives those that are intoxicated plenty of time to get hyped and then it drops a fast dance beat that would stoke the hardiest of the female party-goers. The re-drum reminds me a little bit of the back beat in Lose Control by Missy. It's also super easy to mix into anything. Which is good if you're DJing.

3. DeadEastMovement. I hate this track. But that doesn't mean that it won't get the 99% of people that aren't jaded with both tunes to dance. I actually am not completely opposed to Like a G6 yet but I'm not a fan of the mau5 anymore since his current live sets are bullshit. There. I said it. Don't pay to see deadmau5. Just buy the music somewhere else. What a waste of 45 dollars. If you can find a ticket for 15, by all means, go. It's 15 dollars better than listening to his tracks at your friend's house...cause the lights. Anyway, enough of that rant. This song is pretty well done and, like I said, will make anyone dance.

4. DubDubBub. So what's up with DJ sets without any dubstep? is what your audience is asking. Thats why you need these two tracks. Both are face-melting. I'll just consider them a double dose because my number 5 is mind-blowing. Wait for it. So number 4.1 is a Metric jam called Gold, Guns, Girls. But it is nothing like the original. Not only is it more beautiful, but it is also a dose of pure brain dynamite. If you come to a lull in your set/want to take a small break, you have a minute and a half to chill before you unleash destruction on the crowd.

The 4.2 choice I'm not so sure about. It's a pop-dub remix of Keep It Goin Louder by Major Lazer. It's a maybe play. Hear your crowd, Jeff. I don't know how Dallas gets down. They'd love it in Denver. It's pretty standard dubstep even though it's not as grimy as some tracks. It still finishes with the main melody so you can mix it into anything. Or a fade-out might work cause the siren drums are loud enough to make the lyrics inaudible if you mix it right.

5. Sexy Miley Cyrus? This track is a mistake. It is too hot. I openly admit I love the original Party in the USA. No problem saying that. I also loved David Banner's filthy beats before he fell off that map (really, has anyone heard a banner beat in a while? maybe i'm out of the loop). So I want you to combine filth with pro-America pop music. Here you go. It's a little slow, but you can honestly just cut, play the whole thing, and then start with something different. It's that good.

I did it about 6 times and remastered the 4th and 5th time together to see if I could get it really pro. Unfortunately, it sounded way way way more bunk than I had heard it going in the first time. So I did it a 6th time just for poops and giggles as kind of a last try effort to see if I could hit it on the head. I think it turned out much better than the times before.

This isn't the first chill mix. Not even close. It's super minimal compared to what you're used to hearing from my blog. But I like it and I like the way it turned out.

Now I release it to you to decide. I think it fits the bill of a 'chill mix.'

First Snow

I would like to dedicate this post to the inevitable feeling of detest I will probably have for snow after the winter is done. I mean I'll still love some aspects of it but I anticipate hating the annoying aspects that will make themselves evident soon enough. So cheers to you, white stuff.



I've been struggling to think of stuff to post. I'm overwhelmed by the unceasing posting ability of Todd and the daily methodical music emails from Kyle. I can't do that anymore. I just don't have the gusto.

But speaking of gusto, I learned yesterday that skating is still way up there on the list of things I love to do. A little too late because a short 12 hours after I was battered and bloody thanks to mal-performed trickery, the snow was upon us. I don't know if I ever wrote this down when I was in Paris, but since this acts as a type of journal, I'll recount the story now. So I was skating in front of my apart at the musée d'orsay ledges one sunday evening in (probably) may or june when I met a brazillian kid that just came to skate the ledges. We proceeded to talk and skate and try to get 15 foot boardslides on the marble. I remember being stoked to meet another random person that just wanted to skate. That's all. Good story right? Well let me transition to my Saturday night.

So I got off work and went to Whiskey Jacks with Kevin. Kev wanna be like Ted. haha. Anyway, I was there chillin and trying to find somebody that would dance with me. (On a side note, why are white girls so creeped out when you ask them to dance? I'm not asking for you to conceive my child... Dance with a guy if he asks you and if you're not feeling it, then tell him to get lost. Don't dance seductively in front of me and then act like I demanded one of your kidneys when I ask to dance.) Anyway, Walz and LJ and Dan show up and start dancing too. Then! out of the corner of my eye I say this red-latex-dress clad female. Dayum. So I go talk to her and ask her the reason for her sexy nurse halloween costume. I got an answer and was about to leave her alone (because of all the previous weird looks I'd gotten from chicks that night) and then she asked me what my name was...keeping me there. I was blown away. Wait, you want to talk to me?!? Okay... So we talk a little and dance a little and then talk a little more. But damn it, her cousin had to leave and since she was from not Vail, she had to go with. 'Edwards is a long ass taxi ride' was the thought process, I'm sure. So she left. I was bummed. She was really awesome. The power ended up going out and then I went to some other peeps house, met some chillers, and finally returned home. As it turns out, the foxy lady from the club had found me on facebook. I woke up to a call that said I didn't have to go to work and then a facebook request from her. That was a good way to wake up. So she left to go back to her state of residence, but she might be coming back for Thanksgiving. It would really be cool to hang out with her more. She seemed sweet and incredibly genuine (not to mention, seductive). Oh and she was Brazilian. There! Tied the two stories together.


I watched the movie Holy Rollers this afternoon. Pretty good flick. It was shot really well even though they didn't get into the personal sentiments of some of the characters enough. I would most certainly recommend it. It also had a pretty awesome soundtrack. And the song at the top that you're probably listening to now, is from the movie. I'd recommend buying some of the tracks here.

Living with John has been great so far. I'm happy to have someone else to be around. The by-myself living situation was okay, but I missed the human contact. Of course there are some things that he does that I don't and vice-versa, but we'll figure it out.



I want to make another chill mix pretty soon. Maybe tomorrow? We'll see. I have alot of songs that I've already added to a potentially-using-this playlist on iTunes. I could take it in a few directions. I'm trying to decide between a mellow drum & bass feel or a more indie rock feel. Maybe I'll do two. Maybe not. Regardless, this song kinda spurred the desire: If you like this, buy it or dirpy it.

So i've been getting my stuff together for the first get-together at the new place and was going through my iTunes last night adding all the songs I thought people would like (plus a few guilty pleasures like this one: )

I was going through nearly everything I had, including all the new music I hadn't rated or listened to, and found a few block rockin' beats that I hadn't remembered ever hearing. Some of them are pretty old too. So I'll dedicate this post to stuff that isn't new but is really new to me and most likely songs you haven't ever heard either.


First, a jam Kris might like:
Gold Lion (Diplo's Optimo Remix) - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
This is pretty fun though most certainly on the quirky side of quirky. It'll get you movin though. This played in a Diplo set at loud volumes before or after a bounce or dirty south jam would be sick. I am sitting here just imagining transitions into and out of this one.



Speaking of transitions, I would like to give a big shout out to Them Jeans who always comes through with tight ass tracks. Unfortunately for me, I can't stand to have parts of a song thrown out of rhythm. So I re-did a song he threw together a while back and made a few small changes to it to make it sync better. I sped it up a little to to keep some more integrity of the rap verses. So without anymore delay, the Bloc Party/Lil Scrappy masterpiece:

I'll take a break to explain to everyone that I've accepted my fate as prey for big cats. Vail seems to be teeming with these ferocious felines and their claws are as sharp as their first marriage diamond engagement rings. Or their tiffany's bracelets. (Those are the two bracelets I seen so far btw.) Maybe I should just get into the thievery business. I'd probably come up hard. But I'm not like that. Plus I got a job! I'll be valeting cars at the Marriot in Lionshead at least until the ski season when I start my instruction job. The latter I'm incredibly pumped about. That means probably 6 days a week on the slopes if I get good hours. Which I will after I get recommended by all the people I teach. Woo!



Alright back to the music. The next one is incredible at the start and finish. And the rest is dubstep. You know how I am still a little on the fence on most of the dub movement... Here's the original track. I got the post taken down a second time. Dunno why so I deleted the original.

I think I'll actually go mix two remixes of In for the Kill together to eliminate the harshness that is the central theme of this track. Eh I dunno. on another listen it isn't too bad I guess. I mean it's well done, I just don't like some of the destructive wobbling.


Jesus H that took a long time. I first decided that it would be a good idea to spend time fixing the Michael Woods remix and then I would proceed to creating a super duper version of the Skrillex. Fun, but frustrating. Especially when the whole damn song depends on one insane transfer. And no it's not the one at the end that was the most important. I just listened to it and it was worth the time but dayum! I hope everyone enjoys the fruit of my labor. Shout out to Skream for helping me out with the Skrillex fix.

So I have moved up to vail in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, not timely enough to be able to find easy work. But I've applied at so many places that I feel like something will turn up soon. I am also being pretty picky. I don't want to drive 15 minutes to places in Edwards. That seems pretty lame when I have the whole vail village within walking or free bus distance. We'll see what it comes to.

I'm also about to start taking roommate auditions. That should be fun. I wish colin would just move up here.

After I slang some more resumes today i'm going to check out the edwards skatepark and see how that is. The one in lionshead is really lame. There are cracks before all the stuff that you would want to do on street and the ramp stuff is a little intense cause i never do that type of stuff. We'll see.



Now to music. The song you have been listening to is catchy. Real catchy. There are basically two types of songs the RAC remixes. 1) Songs that are insanely catchy that will become super-songs after their golden mixers touch them (like The Worse It Gets). 2) Songs that are weird and indie that turn into strange dance jams. I'll give an example of that later.

I really love this jam. The little bells in the background are incredibly perfect. The strings are nice as well. And can you hear the back and forth downward arpeggio in the background at about 2:49? You know what that reminds me of? And it did the first time I noticed it last night... Treasure Mountain!. Anyone else play that? It was on my dad's color macintosh back in the day. God I loved that game. And theres another testiment to my useless ability to remember melodies and lyrics from stuff that I would never need again. Woot for wasted brain power.

It's a weird one, but oddly enough, very danceable. You might enjoy it, you might not. I'm not making any promises.
