I've driven down the highway 1 just hopin'...

So it's been hinted by a few people that I should actually use this as a blog instead of just a replacement for my radio show. So I will... do both.

I went to Dublin this weekend. Left on thursday night and got back today. It was really a mellow trip. Me and Lindsey met up and took the bus out to the Beauvais airport. Let me just say that if you're thinking of coming to Paris, don't fly in or out of that airport. It sucks. There's an hour and 15 minute bus ride from Paris... lame...and it costs 13 euros each way. So we got to Dublin late at night and crashed. The hostel was pretty good except for the loud Italian women that were in the room. I'd never done an 8 room hostel situation before and I have to say that it's kinda annoying having to deal with people that much but it's also really cheap. Because I can sleep through a hurricane, I will probably do it again. But if you're a light sleeper, you might want to consider a really cheap hotel or something else that has separate rooms.
We walked the whole city a few hundred times just seeing everything. I think we walked over 15 miles Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Not that much I guess, but we covered a very significant amount of ground without any usage of the city bus. We saw all the sights (I honestly don't think we missed anything really) but didn't go in anything because it woulda probably been lame and it all cost money with the exception of the museums and galleries which were worthwhile. Sunday was really tight because it was a foggy lazy day and we walked around, saw a good portion of the Phoenix Park, went to the modern museum, and met up with my homie Dave in a pretty mellow pub. If you ever go to dublin, make sure to go to the Porterhouse that's right on the edge of the Temple Bar area. It is maybe the only microbrew in a city overpopulated with Guinness taps and besides offering a wide selection of good brews, has 4 floors and live music later at night. Classic Rock Lindsey was a super big fan of the band that played Saturday night. I realized their talent but didn't connect with all the music since that's not what I listen to.

So there you go. My weekend in a nutshell.

Changes part 2

I just realized that my last title was probably deceptive but that's okay with me. This is primarily a response to Ryan's post about what this Barack win will do.

I guess it's just be being a pessimist, but as I sat in the Palais de Congres listening to the numbers roll in and then eventually the news of the Obama win, all I could think was, "Wow, this is going to be the best let-down of our modern lives." I've studied government enough to understand that about 30% of what is set out to be accomplished, is accomplished. Ryan's right about the switch. If nothing much actually changes (that directly benefits the average american) people are going to say fuck that and throw their allegiance to someone else (unless the republicans pick a jackass like john kerry). He gave an amazing speach, but, while I was really pumped up, I just sat their thinking, "what will change to make america different from the asshole of a nation its become?"

All that being said, I'm really looking forward to hopefully being proven completely wrong by a mostly democratic governmental machine. I'm just not going to hop on the boat yet.

And now for another not-related-to-music post...
I used to be really bummed on people who went from one phase to the next. I was like "that dude just changes all the time and he can't decide who he is." I've realized that sometimes it is like that, but other times (maybe even most) it's not at all. Being over here has made me realize that circumstances Definitely change people. I have worn button-up shirts to class. If someone was a just-t-shirt person (past me) looking at me they'd probably say, "that guy sucks." Well, maybe, but who is that person to say that? So since I was often in that judging-a-book-by-its-cover mode I won't be. People just do what they want to, and a dude in a suit could be just as cool of a person as anyone else or a just as big of a dick as anyone else. (If you don't follow now, bail, cause I'm sure it isn't going to get better.) Ramble on? Consistency is good, but what I wanted to be and see other people be a while back was just one style of person through and through. That's great and all, but it doesn't make any sense at all for modern human existance. With some type of love as the goal for everything we do as humans, (at least that's what I would say) changing style to fit situations not only helps the person doing it but also the people around them feel more comfortable. I don't want everyone to become fashion robots, but wearing jeans to a ballet isn't going to be good for anyone. Change that happens in the long run will also just happen whether or not we realize it. I'm going to be different when I go back to the US. No doubt. I'm sure people there will be or seem different to me then as well. I don't have a point other than saying let change happen. Let things change, experience changes and see what you think about them, but remember what you stood for, what you're standing for, and what you intend to stand for and get them aligned at least a little bit. (Wearing a t-shirt one day and a button-up with a tie the next is different than believing in discression one day and doing a jig with anyone the next)

I listened to the new Bloc Party album Intimacy in one sitting. Some of it is Merde; likable shit but shit nonetheless. However, I'm buying the album cause when they do it good they do it good.

I'm starting Pancake Time in Paris. I hope it'll get to the point where reservations have to be made and I can start to make a half euro per person profit. Rad! But I'm really excited cause I love cooking for people and pancakes are the ultimate feel-good food. They can be healthy or unhealthy but most always scrumptious.

Colin, I'm working on the artwork to send to you. I already have the candy, but I want to make the package worthwhile. If anyone else in the US would like a candy/art shipment just get at me and I'll make it happen if you will do the same for me.
