So i've been getting my stuff together for the first get-together at the new place and was going through my iTunes last night adding all the songs I thought people would like (plus a few guilty pleasures like this one: )
I was going through nearly everything I had, including all the new music I hadn't rated or listened to, and found a few block rockin' beats that I hadn't remembered ever hearing. Some of them are pretty old too. So I'll dedicate this post to stuff that isn't new but is really new to me and most likely songs you haven't ever heard either.
First, a jam Kris might like: Gold Lion (Diplo's Optimo Remix) - Yeah Yeah Yeahs This is pretty fun though most certainly on the quirky side of quirky. It'll get you movin though. This played in a Diplo set at loud volumes before or after a bounce or dirty south jam would be sick. I am sitting here just imagining transitions into and out of this one.
Speaking of transitions, I would like to give a big shout out to Them Jeans who always comes through with tight ass tracks. Unfortunately for me, I can't stand to have parts of a song thrown out of rhythm. So I re-did a song he threw together a while back and made a few small changes to it to make it sync better. I sped it up a little to to keep some more integrity of the rap verses. So without anymore delay, the Bloc Party/Lil Scrappy masterpiece:
I Still Got Problems (TK Refix) - Them Jeans I really really love both tracks. I might try to do it the other way around. Kele on top of the No Problems beat? We'll see.
I'll take a break to explain to everyone that I've accepted my fate as prey for big cats. Vail seems to be teeming with these ferocious felines and their claws are as sharp as their first marriage diamond engagement rings. Or their tiffany'sbracelets. (Those are the two bracelets I seen so far btw.) Maybe I should just get into the thievery business. I'd probably come up hard. But I'm not like that. Plus I got a job! I'll be valeting cars at the Marriot in Lionshead at least until the ski season when I start my instruction job. The latter I'm incredibly pumped about. That means probably 6 days a week on the slopes if I get good hours. Which I will after I get recommended by all the people I teach. Woo!
Alright back to the music. The next one is incredible at the start and finish. And the rest is dubstep. You know how I am still a little on the fence on most of the dub movement... Here's the original track. I got the post taken down a second time. Dunno why so I deleted the original.
I think I'll actually go mix two remixes of In for the Kill together to eliminate the harshness that is the central theme of this track. Eh I dunno. on another listen it isn't too bad I guess. I mean it's well done, I just don't like some of the destructive wobbling.
Jesus H that took a long time. I first decided that it would be a good idea to spend time fixing the Michael Woods remix and then I would proceed to creating a super duper version of the Skrillex. Fun, but frustrating. Especially when the whole damn song depends on one insane transfer. And no it's not the one at the end that was the most important. I just listened to it and it was worth the time but dayum! I hope everyone enjoys the fruit of my labor. Shout out to Skream for helping me out with the Skrillex fix.
------------------edit---------------------------------------------------------------- which is something I can't post on here. So i would like to say sincerely, fuck you to the Universal Music Group and the bitch asses at the DMCA who no only deleted the original of the michael woods, but felt they should also delete the fix-er-upper i did of the track. so fuck them and email me if you want either songs (ted.krause@me.com) I doubt la roux or michael woods (who i guess was professionally contracted by polydor (owned by universal) to do the remix of the song) had anything at all to do with hating on spreading the word about good music. ----------------------edit--------------------------------------------------------------
Woo. So now for one last one that isn't La Roux. I think I'll wake up with red hair after that...
Both are old independently, but I hadn't listened to this mash...ever. I've had it since November 9th last year! says my date modified column. Crazy that something this ridiculous can sit there for that long. Enjoy
Start off with this. Then get the remix I'll post later:
Pretty cool sound huh? I'll return to that later.
So I have moved up to vail in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, not timely enough to be able to find easy work. But I've applied at so many places that I feel like something will turn up soon. I am also being pretty picky. I don't want to drive 15 minutes to places in Edwards. That seems pretty lame when I have the whole vail village within walking or free bus distance. We'll see what it comes to.
I'm also about to start taking roommate auditions. That should be fun. I wish colin would just move up here.
After I slang some more resumes today i'm going to check out the edwards skatepark and see how that is. The one in lionshead is really lame. There are cracks before all the stuff that you would want to do on street and the ramp stuff is a little intense cause i never do that type of stuff. We'll see.
Now to music. The song you have been listening to is catchy. Real catchy. There are basically two types of songs the RAC remixes. 1) Songs that are insanely catchy that will become super-songs after their golden mixers touch them (likeThe Worse It Gets). 2) Songs that are weird and indie that turn into strange dance jams. I'll give an example of that later.
So without any more wait, the
RAC remix to Boy byRa Ra Riot (just go to the rcrdlbl site so I don't get in trouble for re-posting too soon.)
I really love this jam. The little bells in the background are incredibly perfect. The strings are nice as well. And can you hear the back and forth downward arpeggio in the background at about 2:49? You know what that reminds me of? And it did the first time I noticed it last night... Treasure Mountain!. Anyone else play that? It was on my dad's color macintosh back in the day. God I loved that game. And theres another testiment to my useless ability to remember melodies and lyrics from stuff that I would never need again. Woot for wasted brain power.
So for a song that is weird and has been turned into a strange dance-jam? Let's go with this one:
It's pretty intoxicating, though the "I'm in love I'm in love" gets a little repetitive. However, Becky Williams' voice is pretty incredible. (It is her right? The chick fromLate Night Alumni?) You'll like the song if you like Kaskade or any vocal prog house stuff.
That's all for me today. Catch ya on the flipside.
I have just found this song (better late than never, right?) on Morgan Page's May mix. It was the last track. I then promptly listened to the original and then went on youtube and found every remix I could find to the damn song. I never do this nor do I suggest anyone else putting up a blog entry like this (because they're annoying as hell) but here are all the remixes on youtube. Tell me which one you like the best. Or rate them. Or not. But if you say anything hit me up on the book or just here in the comments.
Original:
It's a cool video so watching it is probably a good use of your time. Especially if you're about to embark on the epic journey it will take to listen to all of these.
Here's the version I heard before the original on Morgan Page's mix. It's awesome enough to get me to do this whole damn post. It's all over the place, but incredible on all accounts. The builds are INSANE. Scope it yo.
This is a huge track that would make me move. That being said, it sounds like a robot was short circuiting while he made it. I'm still going to download it though. The keys at 6:10 are incredible. Whoever Roboberget is is musically inclined.
Ugh. Everyone is doing the Russ Chimes thing but not as good. The melody they added at 3:20 is pretty sick but the rest of the song is bunk. It's just very calculated electro.
Dude changed the key and then decided that he would throw in sections that didn't fit the key he changed the vocals to. Why would you do that? It's really pretty great otherwise. I just dont like that clash.
How do you turn an emotionally charged jam into an innovative dancehall joint? Ask Sinden. Yes, he's that good live too. This is just professional.
Too long. But it is interesting. The psycho i've-got-a-knife noise at 5:04 is annoying but the gun cock that starts after that is sick. I'd never heard that used like that.
This one's a simple Classic proghouse joint that is simply done well. There are cool sounds throw in there. Nothing jumps out, but it's solid.
This is the only drum and bass remix I've heard of this track. So if that's your thing, get it. It's not my favorite but it is done right and kept simple. Which is a must for D&B i.m.o.
The tom is too loud. I'm sorry but that was enough to blow it for me. Even though 5:46 was SICK!
Like you would expect from the remix name, this is trying to be a Miami Bass jam. Hell, it may be a propper MB jam. But I wouldn't know since I got mucho hate for all the innovations coming out of miami. Sorry, I'm a hater until someone can pass along a good jam. I'll pass on this.
Wow the one commenter on this one really fucking hated it. It sounds like good I-made-this-in-my-basement Dubstep to me. I like it well enough. Worth a check if you like dub sounds.
Bananas. This isn't anything like the original. Personally, I really liked the original and this is a ruining of something good. But if you like things way way way remixed, this is your jam. It is very electro (and therefore kinda boring to me).
Another powerful electro jam that keeps the soul of the song but still gets pretty grimey. The beginning is weird and forced. It takes a little bit to get going. The ending is simple and nice. Me like.
This is my least favorite so far. The break has Nothing to do with the original. If you actually take time to listen you'll think the same.
Really gets to the hard house point on this one doesn't he? Doesn't really change it up that much though does he? But he probably knows the chop-up at 2:56 minutes is dope enough to get the rest of the track to pass doesn't he? Yeah he does.
Hell yes. Electronic music getting you to work fast at getting to work fast. Ending is weak but I would just cut out the last 50 seconds if I used the track.
Maybe someone could find it high def? Sound quality is shite but the track is awesome. I doubted that they made it until I heard the keys. Reminded me of Ready 2 Wear by FDHC. Why few of these tracks get better until after 3 minutes is beyond me.
The other Dubstep remix. Which is better than the first. And I actually will tell you I like it. Kinda rare, but like Hold On, it's a great use of dub bass while keeping the original vibe of the song.
Another Dubstep. More dubsteppy than the previous. It's actually pretty tight because it's such a fucking deep track. edit: This is the best dubstep remix.
This is actually much more felix da housecat than the fdhc remix I posted on here. Its a happy track. Not that the subject or overall vibe has changed...Its just bouncier.
This last one is a clever mix of 7 of the aforeposted tracks. He did a pretty good job.
That took a ridiculous amount of time. I hope at least one person listens to them all while they're at work or something. Ahem* Marc *Ahem. But unless you really like the original, you might lose interest half-way through.
I guess if I were to suggest the Gold, Silver, and Bronze , they'd be...
in that order. And the Franco is the best one. The others are just the best other jams that are the best at spanning the wide spectrum of remixes that have been made so far. TheMidibyteis too similar to the Franco so it's not on this top 3, but it is easily my second favorite remix.
And for something completely different. This. As a Bonus. It's a hot jam. I want to meet a Katy B. Too much to ask? Yeah, maybe.
So I'm going to be on a plane for The City in about 8 hours. I'm stoked. Like a flame. Check out this tilt-shift of NYC:
I'm sure the whole week will be filled with much mayhem and much exploration of a place that I've been but never fully seen. After I finish with this post I'm going to write all of the non-MICEFA people that are there just cause some of them I haven't seen in a really long time and would like to. Like Soph, for example.
But now my mind is cluttered. And so is this poor writing. I don't know what I even want to write. Oh! I sent a check for my apartment in Vail today. Hopefully they get it before someone else signs on to the place. I think it's the best place. They have possible covered parking and I would be able to walk to work if I wanted to. If not, the bus comes Right there. It's a pretty sick place. And my old man has agreed to pay for the rent until I can find someone I like to fill the second room. Which is awesome cause I can pick the person I would like to live with for a year so I don't end up with a weirdo or dirtbag or something. Hopefully it works out.
I can't find the full song of this song:
Track 15 - DJ Ghetto's Ageday mix I got at Global.
I've searched everything I feel and nothing has come up. I Shazamed it on my phone, googled it, youtubed it with all the different keywords and everything. No results. And it's driving me mad cause it's so pop-y and electro...and I like it. Plus...this chick is singing to me. So if you can come up with anything Please tell me. Thanks in advance.
Until I figure it out, I have a few jams that are completely stuck in my domepiece:
First it's Santi. I mean it doesn't take alot from her anyway but Benny Blanco has simply massacred this beat. It will send shivers. Trust me. It's just SOOOO short. Which sucks. But it's still very much worth your download.
Second it's a track Marc sent me a while back that, after careful consideration, is a near perfect song. It's absolutely incredible. Again, I can't say enough about RCRDLBL. They really do find some gems. Her voice matches the building drums that creep on you and hold on tight. Another chill-sender. Get it.
Third, we have good ol' Imogen in all her Heap of weird named glory. (Get it??) It's a pretty awesome tune as well. Kinda fits the beautiful uneasiness that the other two have as well. "You know you're better than this..." Headlock (FiSK Remix) - Imogen Heap
(Edit - I just watched the video for Headlockand much more of the original cae through in the remix than I thought. Chicka kills it on the production of her stuff. FiSK didn't have far to go to make it excellent.)
So those should hold you for a week. Well, they probably won't but there's nothing I can do about it.
Alcohol does strange things to people. As I even better know from this past 5-day marathon.
I'm not even sure what to say, honestly. I've learned alot of things about people that I never expected to know...or for that matter, never expected to hear. Some of it's been great, some of the other stuff has been good. I don't feel like learning about people in any way is ever not positive. But when you get drunken friendliness which turns into drunken openness, it can also open doors that lead to drunken ambition (which, admittedly, can be good and bad). That is enjoyable but most of the time not healthy. I've found that out.
As I've said, the weekend was fun. Don't get me wrong. But those types of poison lead to certain sentiments that can startle, mystify, confuse, nauseate, and possibly even crush whatever that thing is in your stomach that senses what you're feeling is. Can is not necessarily does. Sometimes you can find somebody that shows you a part of yourself that you didn't know. Sometimes you show somebody something they didn't know either. It's a good thing to have happen in either circumstance, because like I said, learning is the key to life. At least that's how I see it.
For example, one night of my 5-day marathon, I was told some of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Not all true, but still, kinda cool to know that someone thinks that, even if it may have been for a purpose. Then last night, at the stadium oddly enough, I met someone who needed to hear that she was beautiful, cool, kind, and whatever else I said after I had more than I had planned on having (thanks to everyone who tried to kill me with the free shots). She had written herself off because she was 31. She felt that she had lost something with "growing old." I wasn't going to let her end it with that thought so I told her exactly what I thought. Which, I like to think, was spot on. I feel like when you're working at a place like that, you get hit on but never get to hear anything that is said for being honest's sake. Maybe it was just her mood last night, but some people need a hand to get out of a hole that their mind has created for themselves. Regardless, as I told a good friend tonight, standing there talking to her was the best I felt all weekend. When you happen to see someone's eyes change from a protective glaze to a grace-touched gaze, you've seen a very small part of the best of them. I like that last line. Regardless, I want to see what our interaction is the next time I go to quench my thirst.
Now for the music:
This one is dedicated to Ms. Chacon. It has a level of emotion in it that, though not rivaling yours, is quite splendid.
This next one is one that I've had for a long time, but haven't listened to since I first got it. It was never a favorite so when all my ratings got deleted in iTunes, I didn't re-find it again for a while. I like it's energy. I like it's complexity. Hope you will too.
Get this and play it tonight. I will. I only wanted to do one take, so I did. Accept it's terrible inadequacies in a few places. But also enjoy. It hits pretty hard in some spots. Your mind might melt with the bass from Motherf#ck@ by Greg Nice. It is HEAVY. So without further ado:
I thought I was going to do better at keeping this consistent. Guess that didn't pan out like I had hoped.
This describes what my bike makes me feel:
I hadn't really been paying attention to the Rcrdlbl stuff that I always have been recieving, but there is some great stuff to be found on there. It's 2 songs a day so I will guarantee that you'll find at least one real gem a week:here.
You'll have to forgive the oldness of the music. I've been sitting on these for minimum 2 weeks. So you might already have them if you've been perusing other sites.
The first one of this post goes out to Rabah down in LA. Hope you're living well gurl...
This is a well constructed mash of two good things. And you will like it if you like either original tune.
The next one is hip-hopopotomous! It's a good I don't care what you think party song. For those nights when you don't cur what them folks be talkin. The original is bunk so don't worry about getting it. This beat is way way hotter.
For something completely different you should check this one out. It's got my mom's stamp of approval. She is currently diggin Gaga so she liked this one. I do too, no doubt. It's a faster, darker (in some spots), and masterly cut and pasted track. Rusko is SO crisp on the production. Shout out to all my rusko fans. ;)
I've been thinking alot about how stuff has turned out for me in my life recently. I wonder what I would be like if I didn't have a strangle-hold on my parents' cash. At 22 I feel real guilty about that. I've also been thinking about all the potential somethings that haven't worked out. Whether they be completely out of my control or mostly up to me, I don't know if, looking back, I woulda done anything much differenty. Financially not making anything happen has been a great decision. My soul is always bugging me about it, but it's nothing some solid realism can't fix. I think it'll be really interesting what I make of that in the future. I don't see myself having any room for it, but you never know. People have always told me you'll find time for something great.
I think I'll hold off on a bonus tonight. Make yall wait. Oh but before I forget, here's the youtube song:
If anything I post here is found to be against the liking of anyone, just email me at ted.krause@me.com and I will remove it quickly. That's alot better than checking in on my blog to see that my post was removed. So just holla at me!
